Under the amendment, applicants seeking specific registration marks for vehicles, whether in the private or transport series, will be required to pay revised fees based on the type of number and vehicle category.

State govt has notified the Goa Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Rules, 2025, revising the fees for the allocation of choice registration numbers for vehicles in the state. The new rules, issued under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, amend Rule 310 of the Goa Motor Vehicles Rules, 1991, and will come into force upon publication in the Official Gazette.

Under the amendment, applicants seeking specific registration marks for vehicles, whether in the private or transport series, will be required to pay revised fees based on the type of number and vehicle category. For instance, identical numeral marks from 0001 to 0009 will now cost 15,000 for two and three-wheelers and 1,00,000 for other vehicles in the private series, while the corresponding transport series rates are 7,500 and 50,000 respectively.

Special combinations such as 0786, symmetrical numbers like 1111, and consecutive sequences such as 1234 or 9876 also carry varying charges. In cases where multiple applicants seek the same number, allocation will be made to the highest bidder. The rules also provide for the retention or advance reservation of registration marks on payment of specified non-refundable fees, with additional provisions allowing the transport department to open new series for preferred numbers at triple the standard rates.>
