Fuel tanker explosion in northern Nigeria kills more than 140 people – video

A fuel tanker explosion in northern Nigeria caused the deaths of more than 140 people and injured 50 more, according to local police. Footage circulating on social media and verified by Reuters showed people panicking and shouting amid widespread fires. Local authorities said the vehicle crashed late on Tuesday night after the driver lost control on the Kano-Hadejia expressway near the town of Majiya in Jigawa state. Shi’isu Adam, a spokesperson of the Jigawa police said, people attempted to scoop up oil after the crash and did not heed a warning by authorities to stay away from the vehicle
