Don Stewart, a 28-year Toyota veteran and now president of Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina, shares insights on his journey, upcoming challenges and the plant’s official line-off.

Stewart was named president of Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina and Region 7 group vice president in May 2025, following a three-year tenure as plant operations lead and vice president of manufacturing at Toyota’s newest plant in North America.

Toyota North Carolina is the company’s first in-house battery manufacturing plant outside of Japan. With 28 years at Toyota, Stewart is eager for what lies ahead at the plant. We asked him about challenges he’s overcome, what he’s most excited about right now and the official line-off at Toyota North Carolina.
