The FIA has confirmed the official entry list for the 2026 Formula 1 season and revealed Arvid Lindblad’s choice of number for his grand prix debut.

Racing Bulls’ new driver will race using the number 41. No driver has competed in a race using that number since Geoff Lees qualified his Ensign 24th and last for the Dutch Grand Prix in 1980. He crashed out after 21 laps.

The number has appeared on cars since then, but never in a race. Lees made an unsuccessful attempt to qualify for the Italian Grand Prix later that year with the same number.

AGS used the number on one of its cars throughout the 1989 season, but neither Joachim Winkelhock nor Yannick Dalmas were able to qualify for any of the 16 rounds. Sakon Yamamoto and Franck Montagny used the number in practice appearances for Super Aguri during 2006, and most recently Susie Wolff ran it in the same capacity at Williams over four rounds from 2014-15.

The FIA also formally confirmed Lando Norris will take over using the number one following his world championship victory this year. Max Verstappen will not return to using 33, which he ran between 2015 and 2021, but has chosen to take up the number three instead. This required the approval of Daniel Ricciardo, who previously raced using the number and was entitled to reserve it for one final year in 2026.

For the first time in 10 years, the entry list for a new F1 season features 22 drivers spread across 11 teams, following Cadillac’s arrival in the world championship.
