The installation of EV charging infrastructure is projected to grow at a CAGR of 44.1% from 2022 to 2030, while the global EV market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 21.4% during the same period. To support the increasing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in India, establishing a robust EV charging network is critical.
In line with the government’s electrification goals, ChargeZone, a leading EV charging provider, is taking significant steps toward building a cleaner and more sustainable future. The seven-year-old startup is dedicated to electrifying the country’s EV infrastructure, emphasising the urgent need for rapid-charging solutions. “You need to build a charging infrastructure before you bring electric vehicles on the road,” said Kartikey Hariyani, Founder & CEO of ChargeZone and BillionE, at the 9th edition of the ETAuto EV Conclave 2024.
Supercharging India’s EV Network
ChargeZone currently offers a range of services, including B2B fleet charging, B2C retail charging, Charging-as-a-Service (CaaS), and Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS). The company has ambitious plans to install 10,000 charging stations across India by 2030. Its strategy focuses on locations where users typically spend 30-40 minutes, such as restaurants and shopping complexes.
Explaining the need for supercharging stations, Hariyani noted that these stations, with capacities of 180 kilowatts or more, are essential for India’s EV ecosystem. “We have commissioned seven different supercharging stations in the country,” he said, highlighting ChargeZone’s progress in this area.
Supercharging stations are expected to drive greater acceptance of EVs by eliminating concerns about charging availability during long-distance travel. Hariyani emphasised that the focus would initially be on public mobility, such as commercial fleets and shared vehicles, rather than private EV owners.
To support this vision, the Indian government plans to deploy 72,300 public charging stations under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme, backed by an allocation of INR 2,000 crore.
