New Delhi: A Delhi tribunal has awarded ₹51.5 lakh in compensation to a 2023 road accident victim whose left leg was crushed under a truck, holding that there was sufficient evidence establishing “negligence on the part of the driver.”While noting that it was “not possible to quantify the compensation admissible to the injured for the sufferings,” the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal relied on the injured man’s testimony and documentary evidence to fix liability on the driver.

The tribunal awarded a total compensation of ₹51.5 lakh, including ₹22.5 lakh towards the cost of a prosthesis. The tribunal described the prosthesis as a “hardship” and observed that it was a necessary remedial measure to help restore normal movement.

The petitioner, Arshad Ali, told the tribunal that he was on bed rest for six months after the accident.
