Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Singh on Thursday held discussions with a delegation from Norway on electric vehicle (EV) policy and adoption, with both sides agreeing to share knowledge and best practices.

Singh said that the meeting covered a wide range of policy issues, including EV technology, adoption models and public transport solutions, PTI reports.

The Norwegian delegation, representing a think-tank, appreciated the introduction of Delhi Electric Vehicle Initiative (DEVI) buses in the capital’s public transport fleet.

“The delegation appreciated the DEVI buses as last-mile connectivity. We would like to learn about their technology and policies and our experts will go there,” Singh said after the meeting.

A member of the Norwegian team noted that the 9-metre electric buses in Delhi were particularly suited for last-mile connectivity and appeared convenient for passengers.

“We had a great meeting during which discussions were held on EV policy. We discussed our experiences regarding EV adoption over the years in Oslo, which is a very small city compared to Delhi. We look forward to exchanging our knowledge and experiences,” the delegate said.

The visiting team also shared insights on Norway’s EV policy interventions covering charging infrastructure, public transport integration and parking management.

Delhi’s DEVI buses, deployed in public transport, are equipped with CCTV cameras, live tracking, panic buttons and motorised ramps for passengers with disabilities. They also feature retractable steps at a low height of 40 cm, aimed at making boarding and alighting more accessible.
