Strategies to combat the air crisis are under examination.

The Supreme Court on Monday announced that it will hear matters related to vehicular pollution in the Delhi-NCR region on March 12, amid ongoing concerns over air quality in the national capital and surrounding areas.

The top court has also directed the state governments of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan to issue public notices to coal-based industries operating in the NCR region, as part of efforts to curb industrial contributions to air pollution.

In addition, the Supreme Court has sought the Centre’s response to a suggestion that no new coal-based thermal power plants should be established within a 300 km radius of Delhi. Authorities have also been asked to respond to measures proposed to address dust generated from construction and demolition activities.

Further, the apex court has requested the responses of various union ministries on proposals to shift coal-based industries out of the Delhi-NCR region to reduce pollution levels.

The matter will come up for hearing in the Supreme Court in March, as the bench continues to examine strategies to tackle the persistent air quality crisis in and around Delhi.>
