More than 36,000 errant autorickshaw drivers were issued challans for various traffic violations by the traffic police as part of a special drive. Fines up to ₹97.47 lakh were imposed, said police.

Officials said there have been repeated complaints of auto drivers driving rashly. A special drive was carried out between Feb 4 and Feb 15 to discipline auto drivers. Police fanned out at major intersections. Challans were issued for refusal to ply (23,744), overcharging passengers (456), plying more passengers than permitted (8,469), unauthorised parking, driving without a licence, signal jumping and negligent driving.
