CESC inaugurates fast charging unit for EVs in Mysuru

In a significant move towards promoting renewable energy usage and developing an eco-friendly transportation system, the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) inaugurated a state-of-the-art 30 kV fast charging unit for electric vehicles (EVs) on its office premises in the city on Monday.Ramesh Bandisiddegowda, CESC chairman and MLA, along with the CESC managing director, KM Munigopal Raju, launched the service.

Ramesh Bandisiddegowda remarked that the use of electric vehicles has been increasing recently, and the corporation is encouraging the use of EVs. This not only helps in reducing air pollution but also decreases dependence on imported fuel and promotes the use of green energy.

The existing EV charging unit at the corporation’s office was upgraded to a 30 kV fast charging capacity, allowing two cars to be charged simultaneously. With fast charging technology, a car can be fully charged in 40 to 45 minutes.

The new EV charging unit, initiated in collaboration with Zhiyan Electric, can be accessed via the Zhiyan app. Currently, the newly launched EV charging unit is limited to the use of CESC office’s EVs for testing its efficiency, maintenance, and user experience. The corporation is considering expanding it for public use in the future, he said.

CESC technical director DJ Divakar, chief general manager (technical) Sharanamma S Jangin, chief financial officer G Renuka, general managers NR Tasneem Tabassum, R Ramaswamy, and HR Dinesh, among other officials and staff, were present.
