Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) across Karnataka will soon collect additional cess of INR 500 each for two-wheelers and INR 1,000 each for cars (non-transport vehicles) during registration.
This follows the govt notifying an amendment to Karnataka Motor Vehicles Act, 1957. The collected funds will support Karnataka Motor Transport and Other Allied Workers Social Security and Welfare Fund.
Following the amendment bill’s passage in the legislature’s winter session and subsequent assent by the governor, the govt notified amendment to the Act on January 9. A senior transport department official said, “RTOs will shortly collect additional cess applicable for specified vehicles. We have to add a feature in the system for collection of cess decided by the state govt, and it will be done shortly.”
