Goa’s vehicular population rose to 14.5 lakh by Dec 31, 2025, marking an increase of nearly one lakh vehicles from 13.5 lakh recorded in 2024, according to the Economic Survey 2025-26. The figure translates to roughly 0.9 vehicles per person, or about 91 vehicles for every 100 residents. The state has a population of 15.8 lakh residents as per the Economic Survey 2025-26.
In 2024, two-wheelers dominated the vehicle mix, with 8.6 lakh motorcycles and scooters. Two-wheelers continue to make up the bulk of vehicles on Goa’s roads in 2025, as official figures show 8.9 lakh motorcycles and scooters registered as non-transport vehicles until Dec. When combined with 22,866 mopeds, 405 motorised cycles (above 25 cc), and other related categories such as motorcycles with sidecars, the total number of two-wheelers crosses Rs 9 lakh, accounting for the largest share of the state’s vehicle fleet.
The directorate of transport’s data shows that non-transport vehicles—mainly private vehicles used for personal purposes—make up the overwhelming share of registrations, with over ₹13 lakh vehicles, while total transport vehicles account for 1.4 lakh registrations.
The figures highlight escalating pressure on Goa’s roads, with private vehicles far outnumbering public transport options. With 36,600 vehicles registered for commercial passenger service, taxis make up approximately 2.5 per cent of the total vehicles in Goa. They serve the state’s booming tourism sector, shuttling thousands of visitors daily. Motorcycles and scooters for hire emerged as a popular option for quick, flexible travel across Goa’s towns. With 27,918 vehicles registered for hire, these two-wheelers make up 2 per cent of the total vehicles for hire.>
