Assam rolls out red carpet for global semiconductor firms – ET Auto

Malaysia and Japan, strengthening international partnerships and fostering investment in the state's growing semiconductor industry.

Union minister for electronics and information technology Ashwini Vaishnaw and chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma rolled out the red carpet to the global semiconductor industry groups to explore the vast opportunities in Assam.

Sarma, in the presence of Vaishnaw, attended a thematic session titled u2014 Advancing Semiconductor Horizons in Assam for Viksit Bharat u2014 organised as part of the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit here on Tuesday. During the session, state govt signed MoUs with 10 industry groups from the semiconductor ecosystem across Singapore, Malaysia and Japan, strengthening international partnerships and fostering investment in the state’s growing semiconductor industry.

The session, designed to showcase Assam’s semiconductor manufacturing and design ecosystem, highlighted innovation, infrastructure development and investment prospects. It witnessed participation from principal stakeholders across govt, industry and academia to deliberate on the semiconductor industry’s future in Assam and its significance in India’s broader semiconductor strategy.

Vaishnaw announced substantial initiatives to enhance Assam’s infrastructure and economic growth, including an additional semiconductor plant, NEILIT University campus at Jagiroad and an electronics manufacturing cluster in Kamrup district.

Vaishnaw, who also serves as the Union minister for Railways, announced two additional Amrit Bharat trains, six Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals to enhance logistics and trade, upgradation of over 60 railway stations across Assam to Amrit Stations and the transformation of Guwahati Railway Station into an advanced IT Hub. He announced a new railway coach and repair manufacturing hub in the Bodoland region.
