Here’s our report on final practice. That was the ninth time this year Norris has been fastest in practice three, but he’s only gone on to take pole position from their once, at the Red Bull Ring. Joins us for qualifying in a few hours’ time to find out whether it will be him or one of his rivals starting from the sharp end on Sunday.

FP3 has finished and Lando Norris is fastest. Report to follow.

Verstappen slows dramatically approaching turn four after being told Albon was approaching him, five seconds behind.

Norris produces a tidy lap in his McLaren and goes another chunk quicker than the rest, 0.345s faster than Hamilton, 1’16.633. It’s still not as quick as we saw in this session last year, when Piastri was fastest with a 1’16.492.

Hamilton is up next and goes significantly quicker, a 1’16.978 for the Ferrari driver puts him almost three tenths of a second clear.

Verstappen is quicker in the middle sector but ends up fourth, two thousandths of a second off Piastri.

Next to the top is Andrea Kimi Antonelli with a 1’17.253. Vertappen is slightly off the best time in the first sector – is he trying to look after the soft tyres for the end of the lap?

Leclerc takes the quickest time off Piastri but it’s even closer between them – just nine thousandths of a second in it.

Isack Hadjar goes quickest with a 1’17.396 on softs. Piastri beats that, but not by much, he’s only 0.081s faster in the McLaren.

Alexander Albon takes a new set of soft tyres and hooks up the first two sectors well, then locks up heavily at turn 13, where he also went off earlier, and spoils a lap which looked likely to be the fastest so far.

Russell takes over at the top of the times with a 1’17.892.

The field is compressed to within eight-tenths of a second with the exception of the Alpine drivers and Lance Stroll.

Gabriel Bortoleto has a snap of oversteer in turn 10 and has to take to the run-off.

Halfway through the session George Russell, who was complaining about the medium tyre compound earlier on, moves up to third place with a 1’18.028, matching Sainz’s time on soft tyres.

Norris has worked his way up to the top of the times on the medium rubber, now on a 1’18.015, three-hundredths of a second faster than Verstappen.

Verstappen heads back out on his nine-lap-old mediums from before.

Liam Lawson, who was puzzled by his car’s handling at the start of practice yesterday, goes fourth with the second-fastest time on softs. His team mate Isack Hadjar then beats that time on the same compound by just under a tenth of a second. Racing Bulls and Williams saved an extra set of soft tyres from practice yesterday which they’re using now.

Norris has got a time in which leaves him a hundredth of a second off Verstappen on the medium tyre compound. Piastri’s first run was only good enough for 12th, almost a second off the Red Bull.

Charles Leclerc splits the Red Bull drivers in third place, three tenths of a second off Verstappen.

Lando Norris begins his first lap but runs wide at turn three with what looked like a rear lock-up. Hamilton went wide at the same corner again and has to take the escape road route back onto the track between turns five and six.

Verstappen gets his best time down to a 1’18.051 on mediums, Carlos Sainz Jnr beats that on softs with a 1’18.028.

Sauber send Nico Hulkenberg out with flow-vis on the rear faces of his rear wing and there are a few puffs of smoke as he accelerates away.

Lewis Hamilton is having a lot of trouble getting his car to stop, he’s already been off at turn one and turn three.

Max Verstappen heads out on a set of mediums and produces the first time of the day, a 1’18.914.

Final practice has begun. Lance Stroll heads out first.

Max Verstappen was quickest yesterday by just over a tenth of a second from Charles Leclerc. This was the first time this season he has led a second practice session.

Third practice for the 2025 Mexican Grand Prix is coming up next.
