Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday launched a new fleet of fire department vehicles and advanced equipment here as part of efforts to upgrade emergency response infrastructure.

The vehicles were flagged off from the Amaravati parade ground under a broader modernisation initiative being undertaken at an outlay of over ₹252 crores.

“The new fire department vehicles and equipments were launched as part of strengthening the emergency response infrastructure,” said Naidu in an official press release.

The government inducted vehicles and various equipment worth ₹33.25 crore as part of the initiative.

Saving people’s lives must be the top priority, and the fire department should equip itself with modern tools in view of increasing high-rise buildings, he said.

In the first phase, the government purchased 25 advanced fire tenders at a cost of ₹18 crore.

Further, 40 quick response vehicles with high-pressure pumps were procured at a cost of ₹10 crore, along with 50 inflatable rubber boats worth ₹2.49 crore and 30 BA set compressors at ₹2.08 crore.

Naidu appreciated officials for effectively utilising central funds and said the fire department must regain its position as a model for other states.
