The rural police and Highway Safety Patrol, in a coordinated drive, have taken action against 2,712 vehicles on Pune-Nashik Highway between January 1 and 20 this year. Assistant inspector Mahadev Shelke of the Narayangaon police said during this drive, fines worth INR 40,21,400 have been imposed on the offenders.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has also undertaken a series of measures to prevent accidents on the stretch, including drawing white lines, fixing rumble strips, installing red blinkers, and displaying signboards.

Superintendent of police (Pune rural) Pankaj Deshmukh told TOI, “We have fixed the inoperational streetlights. We also wrote to the NHAI to cover potholes on the highway. NHAI has displayed signboards relating to accident-prone areas, restricting the speed limit to 60kmph, appealing to motorists to drive slowly, and warning them not to drive on the wrong side or overtake vehicles.”
