25 EV charging centres to come up in Prayagraj

Its focus is on promoting the rapid adoption of electric vehicles, developing a robust network of charging infrastructure, and making Uttar Pradesh a global hub for EV and battery manufacturing.

With state govt promoting green transport for environmental protection, plans are afoot to set up as many as 25 public electric vehicle (EV) charging centres across the Sangam City on a PPP model. The authorities of Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) will provide land and electricity connections for these stations. The urban transport directorate has been given the responsibility of regularly inspecting the technical and safety standards of the stations. There are plans to set up a total of 320 public electric vehicle charging stations in 16 major cities of Uttar Pradesh. The state govt is providing tax incentives for EV owners and capital subsidies for setting up EV charging stations, thereby promoting charging infrastructure. The setting up of EV charging centres on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model is also part of this, for which a Request for Proposal (RFP) has been issued. Municipal Commissioner (PMC) Seelam Sai Teja said, “We have set a target to set up a total of 25 charging stations in Prayagraj.” Uttar Pradesh is the leading state in the country with the highest number of electric vehicles (4,14,978), followed by Delhi (1,83,074) and Maharashtra (1,79,087). The top position in EV sales in the state is primarily due to the widespread use of e-rickshaws (3-wheelers) in urban areas. During 2022, both passenger and goods-carrying e-rickshaws accounted for approximately 85 per cent of total EV sales in the state. To accelerate the e-mobility campaign, the state govt launched a new Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy in 2022. It’s focus is on promoting the rapid adoption of electric vehicles, developing a robust network of charging infrastructure, and making Uttar Pradesh a global hub for EV and battery manufacturing. The state govt aims to attract 30,000 crore in investment in this sector and create 10 lakh job opportunities.
